چکیده

An antiviral substance was found in extracts of chlorella cells which inactivates arboviruses as well as vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). Partial characterization of the active component revealed that it is a substance soluble in a number of organic solvents and appears to act photodynamically on the viruses. Cells of Chlorella ellipsoidae, cultured heterotrophically in a tank, were harvested and suspended in a solution of 0.05 M sodium phosphate and 0.14 M sodium chloride. The cells were ruptured in a French press, and the suspension

Formation of Elemental Sulfur by Chlorella fusca during Growth on l-Cysteine Ethylester.

During growth on l-cysteine ethylester, Chlorella fusca (211-8b) accumulated a substance which contained bound sulfide, which could be liberated by reduction with dithioerythritol (DTE) as inorganic sulfide. This substance was extracted with hot methanol and purified by thin layer chromatography. This substance liberated free sulfide when incubated with mono- and dithiols, and thiocyanate was f...

Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a comparatively novel therapeutic method involving a safe light source and a light-sensitive substance, termed as photosensitizers (PSs), such as methylene blue (MB), toluidine blue (TBO), sulfonated aluminum phthalocyanine, chlorine derivatives, nontoxic indocyanine green (ICG), and curcumin (CUR). (1) The combination of a nontoxic PS with low-intensity visible li...

Near-UV radiation promotes growth of Chlorella.

The wavelength of natural sunlight reaching the Earth's surface was detected to be above 300 nm using a multichannel spectrodetector and the ratio of UV to photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) of sunlight in Japan (137 degrees E/35 degrees 11' N, altitude; 50 m) in early summer was estimated to be 0.07:1 (i.e., 7%). On the basis of this UV/PAR ratio, Chlorella ellipsoidea (IAM-27) cells we...

Gene expression changes of collagen І and ІІІ in human skin fibroblast cells in effect of microalga Chlorella vulgaris extract and compared to vitamin C

Skin aging is a biological process that is due to the reduction of collagen production and increase of multiple enzymes, including matrix metalloproteinase (MMPS), which degrade collagen. Chlorella vulgaris is a marine microalga and its beneficial effects on the skin make it a proper ingredient to be used in anti-aging products. In this study, the effect of C. vulgaris extract comparing to vita...

Testing a prototype pulse generator for a continuous flow system and its use for E. coli inactivation and microalgae lipid extraction.

Among other applications, electroporation is used for the inactivation of pathogens and extraction of substances from microorganisms in liquids where large scale flow systems are used. The aim of our work was therefore to test a pulse generator that enables continuous pulsed electric field (PEF) treatment for Escherichia coli inactivation and microalgae lipid extraction. In the continuous flow ...
